Some places/regions make them with lime, salt and nothing else. This could be why the ones you had in Cancun weren't red. Some call those Celadas.

They definitely had a different taste to them. And the color of them was more of a dark color not red. They're good but a bloody mary in Cancun wasn't that great I didn't think. I still like the American version of both better.

I'll drink the Cheladas in a can but maybe it's just me but I get an aluminum taste from those or somethin sometimes. I don't really like the Modelo Cheladas. That's what we call a red beer around here. It's just tomato juice with beer in it. I feel like that's a vegetarian drink. I don't think beer is supposed to taste that healthy.

It's the Mexican bloody Mary. I can drink one or two but then I'm done and ready for a regular beer. I like Clamato with a good amount of course black pepper.
