Recap. My son loves to hunt but doesn't get to go as often as he'd like because of school, guitar practice (for school and church, he's really good) and his Mock trial team (they just won regionals at the capital last Saturday) commitments. So after practice with the worship team last night, we headed south. Arrived here at the ranch about midnight and set the alarm for 6.
Got to the blind at first light and the first deer in was this buck. While we waited for a broad side shot and enough light more deer came in. Suddenly, this buck sneezed and spooked all 7 or 8 deer out of there! Then he gets nervous, I guess wondering why all the other deer left. He leaves at about 745-8. We sit til 11 and he doesn't come back even though several other deer do.
We head back to "camp" and have a little lunch and head back to the stand at 2. Throw a little hand corn and settle in at around 2:30. At 2:35 he walks in and starts calmly eating at 18 yards. A little last minute coaching about taking your time and shot placement and the boy listens! The deer's close leg is back so he waits for him to move it forward, comes to full draw, picks his spot and drills him through both shoulders! I tell him immediately, perfect shot! We waited 30 minutes and my son blood trailed the buck about 60 yards. He's killed a bunch of hogs with his bow getting him ready for this moment and it Paid off. Shot with his Diamond bow and some Ironhead fixed blade broadheads got from the classifieds over the last couple of years. Both performed flawlessly. Thanks for reading.
