I really like my Pedersoli Missouri River Hawken in .50 with the maple stock. Although I probably biased, it just screams classic design. The wood is absolutely outstanding with and it shoots lights out with a mini-ball over 80 grains of pyrodex. I could certainly push it a little harder, but I honestly feel like it shoots better with a reduced load. Also, I can’t really tell any difference with the deer I’ve shot!

I will be hunting with a muzzleloader this year, they are fun to shoot. I have a new Hawken that came with two barrels I can swap out and hunt with a .54 cal. or a .62 cal. I mostly hunt public land that only allows archery, shotgun or muzzleloader.

Blackpowder is my favorite kind of hunting hands down. I take the whole blackpowder season for public land off every year. I mainly hunt with a 50 cal Hawken Thompson Center percussion cap, but also use a 50 cal Hawken Thompson Center flintlock. That delay on the flintlock really messes with my mind haha.

New gun came in last night. All I can say is WOW this thing is a beast.
225 grains of 2F will push a 480 grain round ball 1953 fps from about 10 yards from the muzzle. Any closer the muzzle blast messed up my crono .
My finger fits in the end of the barrel

Recoil is impressive but not painful

I can't wait to kill something with it

So why would one want to fire round balls vs sabots? Also what’s the benefit/cons of a flintlock vs percussion? Isn’t percussion more accurate?

                                Thx

I’ve shot both round ball & sabot...my dad used to pour his own lead for r-ball which I always bought was pretty cool.

I’d say round ball is closer to traditional MZ & sabot probably for most hunters gives more distance and/or accuracy.
Also preference plays into their choice.

I’m no help on FL vs percussion bc I’ve only shot percussion

                                Good luck
