How to make a bobcat rug?

I skinned a bobcat for the first time. Did pretty decent job of removing as much of the fat and membrane and all the fat off. Stretched the pelt and tacked and tacked it down. ONice I finished that I dumped salt all over the exposed area.

but now I have no idea what else I need to do. Any help me out?

You will need to tan it. You can do it yourself or send it out for that.

Yup, then you will need to measure the head to buy a form for it. You will also need some clay for the eyes and paws if you are going to do them.

Tan it? I'd like to do it all myself.

So you cut the face off? Did you turn the ears inside out?

IMO, I would have sent the hide off to North Texas Tannery and they would have professionally soft tanned it for $40.

then you can make a rug without worrying about smell , slippage, and decay

not sure if it's to late but you can buy animal tanning kits from McKenzie, Van Dykes, the inet, etc... however I have no clue on cost

My buddies at the pueblos use a traditional method called brain tanning. I have never done that but I'm sure you can find plenty of reference via the internet.

I have always just sent my stuff of to USA Foxx

This is how it should turn out. It sounds real easy but there's no way I'd try to do it myself. Finding the correct head form and mouth will be a task in itself.

Getting the felt to look right is probably as hard as doing the head. We use to just send ours off to a guy who was really good at it for the felt lol.

You definitely need to tan it then, so are you just wanting a pelt then? A rug is what is posted above, with he head mounted and on felt. A pelt is just a skin.

It's not real hard to tan a hide. Go to the McKenzie Taxidermy website and you can buy a kit to tan the hide. Follow the instructions, and that's it.
