Dermotologist / acne w your teenages?

Parents of teens- Is it worth taking them in to specialist. Son keeps face cleaner than anyone I know morning and night, but still struggles w it pretty bad. Know he has some confidence issues though says he doesn't care ....
    Thanks for input!

For those that have watched him on green screen since 3 yrs old. Trey is 6ft 200 lbs now and just turned 14

We just ordered my kid some of that Pro Active cleaner seen on tv. Has great reviews, if that don't work we'll hit up the dermatologist.

I had acne real bad starting around age 13 and nothing I did worked/helped, it started clearing up when I was 18 or 19 so tell him there's light at the end of the tunnel

My sister had some really bad acne in high school and my mom took her to a dermatologist. Gave her some accutane and it cleared right up. I know my mom was worried b/c of the mental/mood side effects a lot of people have had with it but it worked great for my sister.

I've heard that washing your pillow case more often is supposed to help as well.

I was on accutane for a long time in high school. It does work great! I think they took it off the market though.

I used accutane in high school, and it worked like a charm. I didn't have any of the crazy side effects other than dry skin. Had to keep lotion on me most of the time. I was on it for 4-6 months, can't remember exactly, but once I was finished with it, I never had another outbreak.

I tried pro active and several other high end options, but none of them worked at all.

I think anything a parent can do to help kids out today we need to do. It's tough to be different at that age and with so many other having self-esteem issues they look for ways to point out other's to compensate for thier issues.
I would try everything I could afford .
I had acne pretty bad and my mom looks back now and says see wishes she would have taken me to a Dr back then .
But I was so good looking and charming I still had to turn down a bunch of the ladies

                Yea RIGHT LOL

I did accutane in the 80's, it worked I don't know what they have now but it would be worth checking out

yes, and have him use Pro active. I have twin 17 year olds and they are plagued with acne. It does help.

I recommend taking him to a good dermatologist. Let them decide what he needs. That's there job and they are good at it.

Took my daughter last month. $75 insurance copay because it was a specialist, (5 minutes with the doctor) then another $125 at Walgreens pharmacy for 2 prescriptions WITH insurance discount. Yeah, insurance really isn't insurance anymore.

But it was worth it. She's seeing a big difference and is happy

There are newer meds with less side effects also available in generic so it's easier on the pocket book.

See a dermatologist. My kids did the Accutane route and it worked like a charm.
