Also planted 4 acres of switch grass. Including a screen around the plot to make them feel more secure. Which will mean more visits during daylight hours. The switchgrass will get 5-6 feet tall and completely shield it from the neighbors eyes.

Will plant eagle beans, chicory, and cowpeas in April. I'm trying to provide a year round food source for them....if that's even possible with our brutal summers.

I like what you are doing here! How's your switchgrass coming along? Did you plant the Alamo Variety? Have some plans myself to plant quite a bit of that in the next couple of years.

I literally just broadcast and culltipacked the switch grass seed on Saturday. It is Alamo switch grass and will start to germination when soil reaches 60+ F.

The first year switch grass planting is usually not that thick because only about half or less of the seeds germinate because the seed coating has not broken down yet. The second year growth is usually much much thicker.

I ordered mine from an Oklahoma seed company... http://www.jeinc.com/switchgrass ....its about $12/lb. You need seed 2 lbs/ac for Alamo.

I dug a little pi$$ ant water hole today ahead of the rains. Took me about 2 hours with my box blade. I have a creek on my place but need a watering hole or two and put a camera over it.

I hit clay and packed it good around the dam so I'm pretty sure it will hold water. Hopefully it will fill up this weekend so I'll know soon enough.

                            So far so good!
will both types of oaks have acorns?
I was thinking about planting some persimmons and honey suckle on my friends place
not sure if it will take off tho.
