    Javalina hunt advice

Looking for a hunt with my 10 year old son. Ive called a few places and nobody has returned my calls. Texas/new Mexico area....

    #2
Show up at one of the Javelina hunts at the Chap in February. I have never seen them turn anyone away. Hopefully, that won't change with the new public hunt second draws.

What kind of hunt are you looking for? My wife and I do one in South Texas each Jan or Feb. It is primitive camping, but they do have flush toilets.

My kids got drawn for the youth javi hunt at the chap. several years ago. Got to visit with the guy who runs those hunts and he told me he had not turned away a standby hunter in 15+ years. There focus is to get as many kids involved as possible.

Both my daughters and two of my nephews killed their first javalinas at Chaparral.

                RANCH LOCATION

                *
The ranch is located at La Pryor, Texas. Take I.H. 35 South to exit 111 exit and continue on Hwy 57 toward Eagle Pass. Travel 52.7 miles and the Check-in gate will be on the left approx. 2 miles past the ranches main entrance (DO NOT FOR ANY REASON ENTER THE MAIN RANCH ENTRANCE). We highly suggest you not arrive early as this is a state hwy without frontage roads and a drop off shoulder not conducive to trailers etc. If you do arrive early, I would suggest finding a place to park in La Pryor (with Permission of course) or going to Uvalde. Remember no one has an edge as this is somewhat new to all of us. We open the gate for scouting at 10:00 a.m. Let’s make this a smooth operation for all of us and the Ranch.
                *
                EQUIPMENT
There is no minimum draw weight any longer in Texas. When packing keep in mind that temperatures in south Texas at this time of the year can range from very cold to real hot. Staff and ranch personnel recommend a good compass or GPS and snake leggings or snake boots. Bring solar shower as we don’t have showers, we do have a water well.
                *
                PRIZE DRAWINGS and VENDORS
We will do a live drawing for varies door prizes as available and post the results at the pasture sign up table for those not at the drawing. *All prizes must be picked up prior to the end of the hunt. We will have several vendors around the check-in/store area. Bubba & Chris will have the food concession, Woodsey Too Quad pod stands (Ronnie Bradford). , Animal Art Taxidermy (Tyler Vanderkolk).
                *

I don't think so. I've seen young people hunting there but call one of the numbers listed just to make sure.
