Back in February, a real good friend of mine began the preparations for a big fishing trip for a bunch of our friends to Venice, LA. I was excited as I had never been t that area and had heard great things. I started out by driving to Theriot LA last Friday and meeting up with a few of the group to get an early start on what was to become a group of 17 fishing on Tuesday out of Venice. On Saturday the four of us caught over 200 specs and had 97 keepers. Added two nice reds and we were off to an unbelievable start. On Sunday, we decided that the flat seas would allow us to go off shore in the 25' 6" BlackJack and fish for Red Snapper. 5 limits of Snappers later we headed back in and in an hour and a half, we picked up 74 keeper specs and my first bull red-42". Our real "trip" hadn't even started and I was already sore from catching fish!!!! Headed to Baton Rouge to meet up with my son and another old college friend (they drove in from Dallas) and our buddy who set up the trip and lives in Baton Rouge had arranged for a crawfish boil at his house. 100 lbs of huge bugs and we dang near got through all of them. The next day (Monday) we headed to Venice to meet up with the rest of the group who was flying in from Dallas and Austin. Didn't think it could get better but it did. Tuesday we had 17 limits of reds by 10:00 in the morning and then caught and released redfish on every cast for another hour!!! We then picked up a few specs and called it a day. The last day (yesterday) was a little slower but still resulted in limits for everyone and one huge 44" bull red was caught.
