    Recurve String Length Question

I'm putting together my first recurve. I'm going the ILF route and have a blacked out Hoyt Excel 21" riser on order.

My research has me believe a 61" string is the correct length for a 64" bow.

    21" riser + medium = 64"

I'm going with medium Blackmax limbs.

Does a 61" string sound correct?

Any string maker suggestions? Archerytalk has plenty of options but I'd like to support a TBH'r if I can.

I thought it was 4inches difference between actual string and bow length?

Aka 64inch bow would need a 60 string...?

You would be correct for what he is setting up

Daniel made mine three and a half inches shorter and I twisted the heck out of them to get my brace height right.

I did a search before posting. I did not find the old discussion. I hate being that guy dragging up old conversations. It was not intentional.

Thank you for the info. It sounds like a 60" or 61" string will be a good starting point.

I have always got them 2" shorter. They can always be twisted shorter but you gotta be really stout to stretch one

There was a link on it. I have it saved on my desk top. But the geek squad has it right now.

I wasn't saying it to be rude. There were some good comments and information there. It's not always easy to duplicate that.

I've ordered three strings from HCB. The first two were 4" short, the third was 3" short. All for recurves. Knowing what I know now I'll order Fast Flight strings 3" short and B50 strings 4" short. It'll make it easier to keep my brace height where I want it.
