If there was a power loss, the process depressurizes by dumping to flare very quickly. Can be scary looking but those systems are designed for upsets.

Yep. Worked out of the pipe shop there out of high school as contractor baseload. You could feel the ground shaking when the ground flare was in use.

Prayers and thanks for everyone working in the gas/oil industry. Dangerous and hard work and I'm grateful for those that do it.

Used to work there in '96. Pretty dangerous work. Hope everyone stays safe.

Yep. It was all the flares. Power outage in the area. I am sure Valero was scrambling. There was so much flare and unburned product pumping out it looked like the whole place was burning down. That being said, those flares did exactly what they were supposed to. If they hadn't there woulda been a 5 mile parking lot. Give or take a mile

                    Yep.
When they lose power they lose the compressors in when they lose the compressors that's no bueno

It'll be TCEQ that pops them. I think they exceeded their 6-minute visible emissions limit LOL

Not every plant has a back-up generator setup.

Being that I work in a cracking unit I hope to GOD Im never in the middle of something such as this. There's Always a possibility. Losing power in any type of plant setting is very serious business... I'm glad no one was hurt... That is the main thing..
