They wouldn't get all of the potential Republican votes. There would be enough people voting for Jeb or Ryan or Romney (whoever the GOP nominated) to kill any hope of avoiding a Democrat win. All it would do is split the GOP into two parties.

If there are two moderate-to-conservative parties (regardless of who starts the 2nd one), the libs will rule forever.

I truly think folks are done with the GOP. Rubio is a prime example.

When Jeb and Rubio and Kasich get zero votes, then we might be able to form a 3rd party and win. They didn't get enough votes to win the primary, but a candidate like them would get enough votes to spoil the election in a 3-way race.

Shane, my grandparents were "Yellow Dog Democrats" having been born shortly after the war of Northern Aggression and living through the reconstruction and Davis's police...they would have never voted for a Republican.

But for the most part I think there are very few "Yellow Dog" voters on either side today. I think most voters are more inclined to vote in their own best interest or at least for a candidate they like for whatever reason. They may justify it with love of country, conservatism, or other ideology but in the end they are voting for self interest.

I talked to several voters today who were solid Rubio voters and more than half of them said that Trump was their second choice.

We even have a few Democrats working here and two of the three have said that they are voting for Trump because of they can't stand Hillary and what happened in Bengasi.

I asked why not Bernie and all three looked at me in amazement... They replied almost in unison... we work for our money We do have one Bernie supporter but she is on the government dole so deeply that she can only work a few hours a week or start losing some of her benefits..

Agreed. That's what I'm talking about too. Middle-to-left voters who would vote for Hillary if she weren't so flawed and corrupt are attracted to Trump because he's middle-to-left too. They liked Rubio because he is a compromiser, pro-amnesty, etc.... They're not socialists, and they're not constitutional conservatives. They're middle-to-left "moderates", for lack of a better term. Most of them identify as Democrats, but many of them claim to be either Independents or Republicans in recent years.

I had grandparents that were just like yours. Yellow Dog Democrats who loved FDR and would have voted for Mickey Mouse if he'd been on the Democrat ticket. They voted for Bill Clinton the first time, but then voted against him in '96 after they finally had to admit the truth about him. My grandmother actually told me in '96 that she didn't believe all the stuff we'd been saying about Clinton before because she thought it was "just a bunch of Republican propaganda". But she finally came around to the truth about him, and there's no way she or my granddad would ever vote for Hillary if they were still alive today. They'd probably have a Trump 2016 Make America Great Again bumper sticker on their car.

Anyhow, it's definitely a crazy political climate these days. Very volatile and dangerous, as it sits now. The GOP establishment isn't interested in letting actual voters decide to fire them. Trump isn't interested in keeping the coalition together. The rest of us are sitting here watching the food fight and wishing things were playing out differently, because it is becoming more and more likely that the coalition will be split.

We don't have just 2 parties' worth of ideology. We have 3 these days, and the numbers are almost equally divided among them: conservative/constitutionalists, liberal/socialists, and moderates who are OK with big government as long as they have their favored politicians in charge of the big government. Trump and the GOP establishment folks are in that last category, but they are fighting to the death to see who the controlling politicians of that movement will be. One of them will stay in the GOP, and the other will probably start a 3rd party. Either way, they'll be broken off from the constitutional conservatives. Meanwhile, there will be enough liberal/socialists sticking together to end up with a big enough voting block to control things. And if that happens, we'll get amnesty for all the illegals, open borders, and more amnesty. Then it won't matter if the moderates and conservatives ever bury the hatchet and join forces again or not. The Democrats will have the votes to keep winning regardless.

And this is one of many reasons why.

Political parties, not voters, choose their presidential nominees, a Republican convention rules member told CNBC, a day after GOP front-runner Donald Trump rolled up more big primary victories.

"The media has created the perception that the voters choose the nomination. That's the conflict here," Curly Haugland, an unbound GOP delegate from North Dakota, told CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Wednesday. He even questioned why primaries and caucuses are held.
