    Homemade kosher pickles...

Its gonna be a long 3 weeks before I can crack one of the jars open
Melissa (the wife) took 10 pounds of pickling cucumbers and made several jars each of Kosher dill pickle halves, spears, and chips....a few jars with Habanero peppers for me, Austin, and Ethan (aka butt head #1 & #2)

            Those looks great.

Is there a difference in pickling cucumbers and regular cucumbers?

My grandmother taught me to me make pickles. I don’t can anymore. Just put them in a crock and they are ready the next day. Add a grape leaf for crunch.

Brings back memories of my grandad who canned pickles. He used a bunch of dill weed, garlic and peppers. Man.....they were so freaking good!!!

                            Sun Pickles (1 gallon)

                            3 cups white vinegar
                            6 cups water (cold)
                            ½ cup pickling salt
¼ tsp alum or 4 grape leaves or 4 horseradish leaves
                            4 garlic cloves
4 heads of dill (more if desired)
1-2 banana peppers or 1 hot pepper

Pack the one gallon jar with cukes, garlic, dill and pepper. If you use either of the leaves add them to the jar at this time. If you use alum, add it after adding the vinegar/water to the jar. Mix vinegar, water and salt and pour into the jar. Cover the jar with wax paper or saran then the metal top. Let sit outside in the sun for two days and then refrigerate. If it’s cloudy, allow another day before refrigerating.
