Default Comal County Ruttin' Bucks!

The bucks around here are killing themselves for some love. Thought I'd share pics. These are really high ISOs, but I think they're usable.

That's interesting because last weekend in Hamilton, I witnessed a buck chasing a Doe already and its like a pre-rut starting up. I guess the cooler temps and cloudiness from 3 weeks ago triggered their biological senses.

Be careful driving down 281.....they are running crazy. I was behind a lady the other night in front of WalMart, deer came out of nowhere....car parts and deer went everywhere.

Yeah. It's a shame how many are dead around the area. We had a nice one piled up outside our neighborhood. When my son sends me the pic, I'll share.

These are with my Sigma 150-600. I needed more light. The lowest ISO on these is 2500. Some are 6400.

We had a nice one get hit on the FM road crossing out of our place just before the bow season.
Shame to have a nice buck meet it's fate like that.

Two questions:

1) How much would it cost for me to get in the photography game and take pictures that have the same quality as yours?

2) Do you know what causes the acorns in the antlers of the last deer? Genetics or damage in velvet?

I also live in Comal and seeing the same chasing in the deer at my house. It amazes me the size of some of their antlers.

I saw a 2-3yr old buck stick with a doe for 6 hours the other day at work. I thought it was unusual because of the time of year and that I've never seen this around the end part of October. Maybe they are staking claims to certain does.

Thanks.

The tongue wagger was probably 60 yards...the acorn buck, maybe 40.

The acorn buck is **** impressive this year as well, though no acorns.

Very nice!

What camera body are you using?

Have you taken anything longer range? Out to 200 or so?

I'm using the Canon 5DMKIII.

This was around 130 yards. Light was low and this is cropped significantly. I'll try to find a 200 yarder if I can.

Considering that was cropped the picture still looks very nice!

I've been looking at upgrading to the 7DMKII or 80D, although I hear there's most likely a 7DMKIII coming out this year.
