We had taken the boys down to Uvalde/Montel for an "Opening Weekend" hunt as I try to do annually. Since the twins would be hunting with one of the guides (to ensure that no trophy culls were taken ), I decided to bowhunt another area of the ranch in hopes of seeing that nice big "10" that I got a glimpse of last season when I was there. One of the ranch guys told me that they had seen a couple of really good Fallow Bucks in the area too. As fate would have it, one of the Chocolate Fallow bucks made the fatal mistake of walking out into a hand-corned area about 25 yards from my stand early Sat. morning so I sent a Muzzy-tipped arrow through his lungs! We recovered him down in a draw below my stand. He was 26 1/2" wide and had 20 measurable points. He scored 102 on the Records of Exotics scale and easily surpassed the Gold Medal standard. (Sorry for the bloody pics...but he was lying in soaked area when we got to him).
It's been one heck of a week for me. Run the New York Marathon on Sunday; Come home Mon.; Leave out Fri. for a weekend hunt to take a Gold Medal Fallow. But wait…the season's just beginning !
Good Hunting to you all!
