    Back Country Drug War

    Backcountry Drug War

"In the Golden State, dangerous drug cartels are growing pot on public lands—putting wildlife, water supplies, and outdoor enthusiasts at grave risk."

A friend of mine is a Forest Service LEO and sent me this article. He has been on several details in California cleaning up this mess. He is in one of the pictures. He said it is amazing the amount of toxic chemicals they find.

This is also happening on our public lands in Texas. It's a shame when biologist, foresters, archaeologist and field technicians have to be escorted by law enforcement to do their jobs.

I have seen some shows on TV about this problem. Very sad to see.

They've been doing the same thing in east Texas for years. Lots of it growing in the national forests.

What a shame. As someone pointed out on here, this is happening in East Tx as well. Can we legalize this plant and put an end to the stupidity and free your friend's time up. The saddest part is those guys running through the woods in camp Are probably not catching one tenth of what's growing in those woods. Decriminalize it, tax it and regulate it.

I imagine that even if is legalized people will still grow it on public land illegally

If there was no demand and market among the US population for the drugs, there would be no need.

No one grows Tabacco illegally because you can buy it at any store , same would happen if you could buy pot at any store anytime ..

I can drive down the road with a dip of snuff and not hurt anybody though. I person who is high and is driving down the road has the potential to hurt someone. There isn't a breathalyzer that shows intoxication based on pot yet

I think they do have a field test for it now. I may be wrong though. It's happened once lol

                        You may right.

I don't know why anyone would buy it if they could grow it themselves.

But I do believe it is probably easier to grow than tabbaco and would be more regulated. People would be willing to buy it cheaper non taxed and if so people would be willing to grow it illegally to sell.

Of course if the government felt cheated out of tax money they may raise the penalty high enough that people would be scared to be caught and not grow or sell illegally

They should hunt these pot growers from helicopters just like they do hogs. Shoot and let them rot. Worms gotta eat same as buzzards or something like that.

If they made pot legal a lot of cheap nickel and dime lawyers would go broke.

You know, I used to feel this way, but my views have moderated somewhat. I honestly believe that if it were legal, some kids wouldn't even be doing it. I may be wrong, but the " forbidden fruit " will always have appeal to some young folks.

And the way we give drunk drivers multiple chances, I can't see things changing much if it were legal.
