Here is a different way to build a swamp cooler. I used a bilge pump to circulate ice water through a heater core from a car. By adding ice and a little water to start, the pump will keep the water moving through the core. the fan blows across the core and into the box. The core (like a radiator) absorbs more heat from the air faster. When i tested it on my patio, it was 87 degrees outside and the air blowing out of the cooler was 41 degrees.
Frozen bottles do not have the surface area of a radiator, nor does the plastic transfer heat as fast. as the ice melts it increases the amount of water to circulate. the fans is a 12 volt automotive fan from Wally word.
I run both the fan and bilge pump off of 1 lawn tractor battery. It is not much more than a feeder battery but last a lot longer. ($25.00)
I used garden hose, but it gets very stiff when cold! The core just dumps back into the cooler. Buuurrrr!
