Had a snake in my daughter's closet several years ago. Rough earth snake, bout the size of a XXL earth worm.

I was surprised the house was not on fire by the time I got in there to deal with it

I follow a group on FaceBook called "What snake is it North Texas" and people are finding a lot of snakes in houses lately. A rat snake is harmless, I'd just move it outside away from the house.
