Buck running with a fawn?

Part of my early morning bike ride takes me through the park/camping area on the west side of Benbrook lake. I often see deer there - your normal groups of does with fawns and occasionally a lone buck or small bachelor group. On 5-6 occasions over the last month or so I have seen a nice 3-4 year old buck running with a spotted fawn - just the two of them together. That is not something I have seen before - you reckon it's mama died and he is just letting it hang around?
