Are bucks already growing new antlers?

Doesn't it look like new growth in this picture? I thought it was a little early yet.

I believe they actually start growing a new set of antlers almost immediately after they drop. The initial growth process is fairly slow but once they start "budding out" the process goes faster. Not surprising at all to see new growth this time of the year.

That is indeed new growth, and pretty nice too! A bit early for down south, but certainly not for East Texas...

Absolutely. Bucks shed about a month ago in my area and they already have 2-3” nubs.

We saw some bucks last weekend in McMullen county that had visible growth. They where mature bucks so hopefully that's a good sign.

My buddy saw some hard horned bucks still last weekend in Webb county... Won't be long though til velvet nubs start showing up...
