We’re all smiles today.
3 weeks ago, got the green light with no restrictions from my physical therapist to resume archery.
I’m 9 months post-op shoulder surgery for a torn labrum and detached rotator cuff.
A subsequent fall, a week after surgery while trying to get out of a chair, had my Dr and PT clearly having trust issues with my ability to protect me from me.
But it’s all good now and it feels great to be flinging arrows again.
Opening Day, 5 am:
Calm, cool and overcast.
Pitch black walking to the stand.
Perfect.
First light, target buck appears with 2 other bucks.
Here we go..
He's a mature 9 point with dark antlers, couple of character points and cataract in his left eye.
Almost took too long for enough light to see my pins..
It was getting crowded and he wasn’t comfortable.
The panhandle draught from 2011 and 2012 has left an obvious age gap in the buck herd.
Conditions have rebounded and there’s a pile of young bucks in the pasture.
But that old man didn’t like the kids.
7:44 am: Quartering away, the buck stumbled when the broad head stuck in his opposing shoulder. He clipped the top of the hog panel exiting the pen, snapping my arrow in half.
He made it 40 yards, stopped and fell down for good.
154-6/8" gross
37” mass
20” spread credit
Tipped the scale at 251 pounds.
Yep, life is good today.
Best of luck to everybody this season and thanks for reading.
