    Deer Lease Openings

    Val Verde County Deer Lease

    3 Spots Open

    7,700 acres

    Each spot gets:

    1 trophy whitetail buck

    1 whitetail doe

    1 aoudad

    Varmints (no night hunting)

Dove, turkey, quail, but no large numbers of game birds.

These spots will not go to the first people that have the cash.

We have a core group of guys looking for people that are willing to join a group that is working TOGETHER to manage our deer lease.

There will be a total of 18 hunters.

Some of us have campers. The rest of us share the camphouse. Camp has 7 sets of bunk beds.

There has never been more than 6 or 7 of us there at a time. About half the guys only come down for 5 days a year.

We do our best to only harvest 5.5 year old or older bucks.

We put some really nice middle aged bucks on a “Don’t Shoot” list every year. Everyone is expected to pass on the top end 3 & 4 year olds.

We are going into YEAR 6 of a long-term management program. We are seeking folks that can help us make another 6 years.

We want to grow BIG FREE RANGE DEER, and we are just starting to see results of our first 5 years of efforts.

Average mature bucks in the area will score in the high 120s.

We had several middle aged bucks in the 130’s last year that we passed on.

We killed a 152 last year

There are 160’s killed in the Val Verde county every year.

Cull bucks do not count as trophies, and culls must meet specific criteria, being: Over 5.5 yrs old, 8 points or less, and under 115 inches.

We prefer able-bodied men that obey the RULES & LAWS, can take care of themselves, clean up after themselves, and own an atv!

We currently have 16 feed stations up & running. All stations have protein feeders & corn feeders.

All feed stations are hunted communally.

All feed stations have box stands. Some of the stands are getting old and need repair. They are not 5 star quality.

New members will be REQUIRED to supply one deer feeder of at least 1,000 lb capacity or larger for community use, at a spot agreed-upon by the group.

New members will also be required to log at least 4 sits in a deer stand during deer season watching deer before they can shoot a buck!

We have an open line of communication between all members. We share game cam photos and send each other pictures of deer as we try to age them on the hoof while we are in the stand.

We feed the crap out of them too!

    Free choice protein Feb-August.

    Corn Sep-January.

I am estimating we will feed about 30 tons this year. Half corn, half protein. (That’s 60,000 pounds of feed)

Cost of feed & use of camphouse is included in price!

Feeder placement is mainly determined by accessibility. I (lease manager) am responsible for keeping feeders full. I ask members to help out a little when they make trips down as well.

All the pictures of deer & aoudad were harvested last year.

I shot the lion on this place 3 years ago.

All the hard work is already done on this place! We just have to maintain it!

$2800 per year, for year round access.

Guests allowed but limited during deer season/rut.

We encourage folks to get children in the outdoors. We make exceptions to the rules sometimes for kids to get their first deer.

Yearly membership expires at the end of deer season in January.

    PM for details!

    Now taking applications!

We have elk. A few that stay on us year round and some that just wander through every once in a while.

We also have some sika. One bull that hangs around our place all the time.

Have had fallow in the past but none recently.

Good herds of axis are within 10 miles of us but we have never seen them on the acreage we lease.

All exotics other than aoudad are off limits until we feel like we have established herds that can sustain limited hunting pressure.

What part of the county are y’all? How far a drive is the ranch from Ozona or Del Rio?

                              Close to Juno.

Takes 1 hour + 15 minutes to get to Ozona from camp.

Our camp is 8 miles South of the 189 blacktop.
