8pt - Shoot of Give Another Year?

I wanted to get yalls thoughts on whether or not we should shoot this 8pt. I was going to let a friend shoot this buck since I have him aged at 6.5. The last two years he has had very poor antlers. Let me know what yall think.

I do not see anything near 6.5 I see a 3 year old deer... And I'd give him another year

Agreed, give him the pass as that's a 3 year old.

Age around his eyes, short snout, gut, short front legs. I would say old as he ever needs to get with that rack.

What makes you think he is a 3-yr old. Look at his gut. I've never seen a 3yr old with a gut like that.

I agree with you about him not being 3. He looks younger around the face and neck right now due to time of year, but the gut/flank/brisket say older deer to me. My guess is 5 yr old, and let him have it.

With 10,000 lbs of protein fed to our deer this summer and very wet spring, every deer has a gut on our place this year! 3-4 year old, back is not slumped at all.

He's a mature deer....5 plus. The question is do you gamble or not? Obviously he made a good jump from last year so he could be on the rise, but ultimately the call is yours.

Shoot. If that is as big as he can get with these range conditions, take him out.

I'm not sure using the "back slope" is the best way to age bucks. Here is a buck that we know is 7.5yrs at the youngest, possibly 8.5yrs and he doesn't have any back slope:

We have pictures of this buck 5yrs in a row and we thought he was 3.5 or 4.5 five years ago.
