    Management deer?

    This deer looks 4-5 years old to me, and pretty average. Should he be taken before the rut, or should we see if he makes a jump next year?

    I don't think it will make a difference in the overall scheme of your management plan either way.

      Depends on what your management plan is. He’s a nice 8 and may pop next year, if there’s bigger deer in that age class shooting him won’t hurt anything. He would make a youngster a nice 1st buck.

          He's got a nice frame. If he's 4 1/2, he could very well be a biggun in 3 years when he's fully mature... If nothing else, he's likely will pick up mass and character as he ages.

            He looks 5 1/2 to me. If that’s the case he’s not going to gain a whole lot. I would get rid of him. Unless you’re end goal is just to have decent eight pointers. He will drove off younger better bucks and breed before them.

            Don’t jump me if I’m wrong, I’m looking on my phone, lol... but it looks like he’s crab clawed. If that’s the case I would definitely get rid of him, crab claws are genetic, and they don’t score well.

              Low fence= doesn't really matter. He's probably not hurting you guys but that's up to you.

              HF= Kill em...

                  My biggest deer has claws. But a 6-8 inch point Still scores a whole lot better than the average claw.

                        Not at all. We have plenty of deer to shoot, just trying to decide if letting him go is worth him breeding again this year.

                            Let him walk I have seen deer blow up at 6.5 that looked a lot worse then that buck. Can’t kill a 15O if you kill him at 125
