    Hooyman 5ft Saw

Ok guys I picked up a Hooyman 5ft collapsible tree saw today from Cabelas. I had a $15 coupon for over $50 purchase.

At first look the teeth on the blade is aggressive. The blade locks up tight. Click image for larger version

The entire unit is compact and relatively light.

The unit connects via plastic male and female couplers. Click image for larger version

I'm not too sure how durable these will be but I do understand and appreciate their functionality.

The replacement of the blade is simple and quick. Just unscrew the retaining bolt with almost anything that will fit in the large groove, lift the blade out and insert a new one. Click image for larger version

I've had one for a few years now. It's really great if you travel and need to set up quick. I too have the 5' model and sometimes wish I had the 8' model but it gives up a lot in the compact porability department.

The retaining clips on the pole extender are firm and appear to be well made. They sit pretty flat against the unit so there isn't a huge chance that you will release them in transport or use. Click image for larger version

There is a metal piece that wedges it's self against the metal inside to create a lot of grab that keeps everything nice and snug.

That metal piece also fits into a key whole to keep it extra snug. Click image for larger version

Yea, I debated on the 5' vs the 10' set up. Ultimately due to portability... The 5' won. But it is miles a way from not having the extra length and the real reason I gravitated to this saw.

The extender handle and base of the saw slide into a dovetail grove to lock up in a pretty secure way.

I noted a little play at the point of lock up. However, after a bit of inspection... I feel that slight play will actually keep the saw from binding and let you work the saw better. Click image for larger version

Note the release on the hilt of the saw. It is firm and required two actions in order to sepperate the two units. Click image for larger version

The base of the extender pole is a bit chunky and lacks texture. With sweat on your hands or gloves... It could slip. But all in all it's a minor issue.

I have the 10ft model and it is indeed a great saw!

The lanyard has something to be desired. I will replace this with a fair length of para cord to increase comfort and versatility in the event I need a guy wire or deer drag.

I mainly bought this saw so I could have the ability to fine tune my tree stand and keep it in my hunting pack.

All in all its a great tool that is easy to use, pack, carry, and has multiple uses.
Not only can it be use to cut limbs in a tree stand! But also to procure fire wood, clean up a camp site, build a ground blind, and even aid in processing game. I find this tool to have great value.

I've got the 10'.. I like it ok.. I prefer my Wicked Tree Saw.. If they ever make that in a pole saw I'll be super happy.. Till then the Hooyman is getting the job done..
