    10mm ammo question

Looking at Underwood full power stuff. https://www.underwoodammo.com/10mm-auto/

I wouldn't use my 10 as my primary CQB weapon, but if I did, what would be the better defense round on a person?

    Bullet Weight: 165 Grains
Bullet Style: Speer Bonded Jacketed Hollow Point
    Case Type: Brass
    Muzzle Velocity: 1400 fps
    Muzzle Energy: 718 ft. lbs.

    Bullet Weight: 180 Grains
Bullet Style: Speer Bonded, Hornady XTP or Nosler Jacketed Hollow Point
    Case Type: Brass
    Muzzle Velocity: 1350 fps
    Muzzle Energy: 728 ft. lbs.

    Bullet Weight: 200 Grains
Bullet Style: Hornady XTP or Nosler Jacketed Hollow Point
    Muzzle Velocity: 1250 fps
    Muzzle Energy: 694 ft. lbs.

And for hogs, I'm thinking of these.

In contrast to the round nose non-expanding bullets, the flat nose bullets are able to pierce through dense bodies (hogs/bears) of mass while maintaining their nose forward position, which is optimal for maximum penetration.
    Caliber: 10mm Auto
    Bullet Weight: 220 Grains
Bullet Style: Hardcast Flat Nose 21 BHN
    Case Type: Brass
    Muzzle Velocity: 1200 fps
    Muzzle Energy: 703 ft. lbs.

    Opinions??

I think you have that backward. You need a heavy stout bullet for animals, especially pigs.

      Lighter for people.

OP I use the 165s in my 10mm. That bullet is a Gold Dot bullet.

The XTP bullet will overpenetrate on a human.

        Yep.

Thin skinned animals vs thick skin animals

Does Underwood still make the 135gr round? I think I'd lean towards that for two legged, the 165 for deer and pigs, and either the 180 or 220 for big pigs

Just from looking at the numbers in my reloading manual the 10mm loads show best performance when compared to .40 in higher bullet weights.

I'm going from memory, but anything under 200g and you might as well be shooting a .40, and what's the point of that?

                          No hardly.

135 grain bullets at 1600+ FPS
155 grain bullets at 1500+ FPS

                          200 grain bullets at 1200+FPS

40 is at least 200+ FPS slower and even more so at the heavier weights.

I need a new manual, using Lyman 49th edition.

Fastest 10 mm load I can find in 135 g is 1397 fps

.40 with the the same bullet is going 1225

10mm 200g JHP on top of 9.6 g of Blue Dot is listed at 1148 fps.

I'd love to find hotter loads. Where should I look?

                              Work great on hogs
200#ish boar made it 15 yards
