Default Serena Williams meltdown

Dang,
She is such a powerful athlete and obviously the best women's player ever, but dang she is such a drama queen

She was getting her a@@ handed to her yesterday, and just berated the umpire for doing his job. Even her coach admitted he was trying to coach her from the stands ( which is a dumb rule anyway) .....
Lost a point then lost a game after calling the umpire a thief...lol

Couldn't have happened to a better person IMHO

Donít know the first thing about tennis or Williams but I just read an article and sounds like the umpire followed the rule book. She broke the rules, got penalized, and threw a fit. But of course in this day its always somebody elseís fault and now sheís crying ďsexismĒ.

Acted like a spoiled brat.

I feel sorry for the young lady who won. Everyone should be talking about her instead.

The only question about all that was whether she was going to play the race card or the sexism card. Looks like she chose the latter.

Her opponent was a woman too and didn’t act like an idiot.

How do you pull the sexism card when you are competing against someone of the same sex?

Also... how do you advance women’s issues by winning a major pregnant... by beating... other women?

John McEnroe did the same thing years ago. She just lost it. Not saying I approve of her behavior, but it does happen in tennis as in other sports. She definitely was way out of line.

Yep. If the girl she beat (Osaka) wasnít half black you can bet the race card would have used. I felt so bad for what should have been a great moment for Osaka and the spoiled brat in a tutu ruined it.

That was my initial thoughts. However, it was based on her opinion that the men donít get penalized like she does hence the idea that the women are treated differently. At least thatís what I got from some of the post game discussion & comments. She doesnít fair well when getting beat. Wasnít very professional in her approach to the chair umpire

Sheís won for so long, she thinks sheís entitled to win.

Exactly Jeff, when McEnroe did it we all thought it was funny. It happens a lot in tennis, but she like other Goats catch more of the spotlight.

While I don’t agree with her behavior on the court there does seem to be a little bit of a double standard in tennis. Men have said much worse to chair umpires including cussing at them and got nothing more than a warning. Every coach coaches every point and for Serena’s coach to get called out for what he did that Serena probably didn’t even see was a little bit over the top as well. Smashing the racket well that is an obvious code violation.

In the heat of the moment the chair umpire probably should have warned her that if she kept it up she would receive the 3rd code violation and would be docked a game. What’s bad is the other girl would have probably won anyway but this is all that will be remembered.

She is the player who after a win gave a tribute dance known as the "crip walk" on the court. The "crips" are a hyper violant gang from LA who not only kill them selves but hundrends of innocent people. The way this thug acted afterwards doesn't suprise me, this is the life she was raised in and continues to look up to even with all her accomplishments. Hope her child will help her see life in a different light, or the cycle will start again.

She didnít because she couldnít really with a half black opponent and hispanic umpire but she sure did use the sexist card. Any opportunity to blame others for her poor behavior.

The comment about men getting away with it isnít exactly true. I am a huge tennis fan and it is almost unheard of (since Connors and McEnroe retired) for any of the male players to have temper tantrums and the umpire in question has isssued several warnings over the years. The big difference is the other warning s resulted in the player shutting their mouths. She didnít and payed the price. Itís a shame she behaved that way because so many youngsters look up to her. Overall I think she is a good person just spoiled after dominating the sport like nobody ever has.

Seriously??

The crip walk crap was bs. It is a dance many entertainers have done including Justin Timberlake. She isnít a thug and besides being a sore loser she has a pretty clean history of being a strong competitor and works hard to be the best. I am not a big fan but she is by no means a THUG.

Some really ridiculous posts on this thread.

She was going for her 24th major title and was getting spanked by a gal who idolized her and had whipped her in their only other previous match.

She got caught breaking the rules and lost it. It happens all the time. There is no one else to yell at on the court but the chairperson.

Federer holds the men's title record with 20.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAm24bceKrw

I won't even bother mentioning McEnroe.

The little girl caused the meltdown. The tantrum at the ref for calling out her coachs hand signals was the result of the beating she was recieving from the youngster superstar. They should fine Serena her winnings and give it to the kid too for having to put up with it all

The $17,000 fine comes out of her $1.85 million second place winnings. Not a bad day.

She was out of line. Should have taken the whooping and bowed out gracefully. But this is a ridiculous comment. You might want to do a bit of research before posting mess like this. So if you do this dance, youíre a thug???!! So Iím guessing Brittany Spears and Madonna are also crips/thugs then??

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crip_Walk

Tennis player Serena Williams caused a minor stir at the 2012 Summer Olympic tennis tournament when she did a Crip Walk immediately after defeating Maria Sharapova in the gold-medal match at Centre Court, Wimbledon.[4]

She made 3 rule mistakes during the athletic competition. One after another, after another, and then the horrific 3rd one. The first can be debated, but only so far. She chose the paths that resulted in the next 2 penalties.

There isn't a male in this match. She created the issue as a bail out. Very similar to statements her father made regularly several years ago. Any other player not in the final or named "Serena" would have been ejected.

Either way, she was not on her game that day and her opponent was spot on. Congrats to her.

what's obvious and so blatanly unfair is how women tennis players are paid so much more than men's racquetball. How is that Justified when the blue ball goes so much faster?
