Default Hunting with a CANON in Africa (Live)

With the summer temperatures averaging 95-100F I took a few days off to visit the Kruger National Park until next week Friday.

The last two days had a bunch of highlights but I edited just a few last night after a long day out of exploring the Southern Part of Kruger.

Massive old Cape Buffalo Bull (Dagha Boy)

Will share some video later

Beautiful Kudu bull (Grey Ghost)

Lapped Faced Vulture, other species of vultures wait for these big boys to come open the think hides of animals such as elephant or buffalo with those strong beaks.

We had a quick glance at Mrs Spots in the thick stuff

Plenty of Dwarf Mongoose around but you need to be on top of your game to get photos of them, they are pocket rockets...

If you are considering coming over to hunt with us please consider taking a few days extra after the hunt to relax and explore Kruger with us... its worth the time and money....

We will be diving in Punta Du Oro Mozambique in late August this year. We have talked about making a trip up to Kruger on a day off.

Pure greatness. What kind of lenses and distances on these shots are we talking about?

Just great.

I use a 70-200 f2,8 Canon lens with x2 extender.

Distances varies between 30-70m from the animals photos were taken off.

This morning we will be entering the Park at Crocodile Bridge and head north our goal is to reach Tsokwane pick nick spot where we will have lunch ... (Venison and Buffalo Pies).
We will swing south stopping at Lion Pan for a bit and work our way back to exit the Park at around 18:00 this evening...

A dominant hippo bull charges back into the water after a younger bull that just entered the water before him.

A 2 ton animal is deceptively fast on its feet and can get extremely grumpy

Saw black backed jackal 3 times yesterday, for the park its not often you see them as they are skittish due to the bigger predators around.

Later afternoon saw the last one and I played with the background on Lightroom to get a different effect

Nile Crocodiles will catch fish for the majority of their lifeís.

Yesterday morning we had the opportunity to see them hunt tilapia in the shallows...

Both these crocodiles were well over 8ft in length

You donít often find big warthogs in Kruger as they along with the Impala are species readily prayed on by the big carnivores...

This one sure must have some stories to tell about narrow escapes...

Took it a bit easier today.

Only did an afternoon drive and just got back after sun set.

Lit the fire for some blesbuck on the coals tonight and a thunderstorm rolled in.

Going to be a challenge getting coals ready this evening...

Amazing shots! Thank you for sharing!

I've got the 70-200 2.8 on my wish list and planning a 2x as well. Would you mind sharing some of the settings for these shots? I've heard the sharpness tends to fall off at the upper end on this lens with the 2x but I don't see any loss in your photos. Truly great shots.

With the 2.8 I dont have any issues with loss of sharpness in general, but I have had issues on longer distance shots on hot days. But then I had the same type of challenges with the 150-600 Sigma Sport I had before it got stolen.

You will enjoy the setup you are planning to get.

Much appreciated,

I am averaging over 500 photos a day... lot slower than in the past when I started out when it was around 2000 photos a day.

I will get more time to edit once I am home this weekend and then I will share more photos.

We had a beast of a Nile Crocodile basking on one of the sandbanks below us.

Temps were in the upper 90ís
