Ya the Sam is open but have not heard of many being there, I think hogs would be a better bet. How is jbl grass lands?

LBJ grasslands is roughly 5 hours from Houston. There is a good turkey population up here if you choose to make the drive.

LBJ is tough hunting for all critters,it can get crowded quick with trigger happy hunters,so if you go WHERE your orange,be safe and good luck...

No public hunts for turkey for me anymore.

I called in a hunter and had a shotgun pointed at me as he rounded the bush.

Good Luck, you can HAVE 'em!!

                    HINT:
Check some of the CORP of Eng properties.

Sam Houston National Forest WMA has been closed for the past 2 years for turkey, they closed the season on several counties with Easterns due to low population.

SHNF is closed for turkey, as we are doing a release of new birds into Area-I'm on state board of NWTF. Also doing a few new releases this week and next week of birds in the Gus Engling WMA. There are birds up around 'Cold Springs'-which Is part of Sam Houston. But until they allow some type predator control (hogs baiting/night hunting) on Sam Houston, the birds will have a hard time getting started

NWTF-get to know what we're about

Ya I wished they made the Sam a bit more friendly to hunt them hogs. I hope the birds survive and they open back up for them in the future.
