Tagged, buzzards led me to a buck my cousin had gutshot a few days prior and it was covered just like that.

Nothing but a bobcat - had a mama with full grown kits here the other day.

When you see hoof prints......think horses -- not zebras.

                Hobbits do that. Ask Bilbo.

I had basically the same experience many years ago. It was a cougar/Mountain Lion that had covered the deer up. I initially uncovered the deer and saw huge claw marks in the hind quarter where the cat took the deer down. My guess is the cat was already stalking the deer and when my grandfather shot it, the deer then ran right into an ambush. We gave the deer about 40 minutes I think before we started tracking it. After seeing the huge gash marks in the hind quarter we got that feeling we were being watched and just walked back out.

OP I would wait a couple more days before checking it. If you left your scent in there the cat that killed it may never come back to it anyway. You may get a bobcat or coyotes show up as scavengers

My vote is bobcat. I’ve seen two bobcats do that in tandem. They ate a lot between the two of them.

I could see a bobcat doing that,as well as a mt.lion..Knowing how thick, and gnarly some of that country is;wouldn't surprise me at all if a big cat showed up on camera.

I'll update the thread in a day or 2 when I check the cam. Hopefully I'll get picture of whatever it is but I'm betting bobcat.
