I've offered a job to people who just needed a job to "feed their family" or they were gonna kill themselves...I didn't have a job opening, I created one to help them out. Then starts the "well, what are the benefits?". The number one benefit is that your family gets fed, dumbass.

I'm curios to see if he keeps it.
Is it bad on me that I don't know his name?
He claims he's been a ranch hand for 25 years. So working outside shouldn't be a big deal, should it?

I hired a mid level piping designer, at my last job.
He was late the first day.
He missed 2 full days, his first week.
Sadly, he did good work.
He went MIA when he was supposed to do his DISA drug screen.
He gave us a story about having anxiety about being back in a refinery, because he'd been injured in a refinery a while back.
He quit.
We got the results that he didn't pass the DISA drug screen.

My first day on the job(current employer)20 years ago, I was driving in and blew a radiator hose.I coasted to a spot to get off the road, grabbed my lunch box and ran about a mile to a store with a pay phone(no cell phone at the time).Called the shop ,the boss sent a guy to pick me up.We went back and fixed my truck and I drove into work.In all about an hour and a half late.Haven't been late since and now I'm the boss.

All excellent points.
In 5 years of working here been late 2X first time was Ice storm two years ago.
Normal transit time for me is 1 hour. I allocated 2.5. I was 1/2 he late. Not many made it.
Second time I forgot to set my alarm.
I woke up at 7 when we was supposed to start. I called boss and told him.
He was displeased as was I. Made it in 30 minutes.
I'm a truck driver, running a yard hostler, trailers that sir for a while or are old take a minute or 5 to fully air up to release the brakes, affording me the luxury of TBH.

I remember both of those situations.

We just hired a guy back from being laid off last year and in his first 2 weeks he has called in twice, been late on multiple occasions, been late getting to location several times and hasn't given much effort. This week he came to me to train. I flat out told him you have a week to change or I'll send you packing back to unemployment. I think it worked bc he is noght and day different from last week. Why I had to do that is unexplainable.Last edited by txoutdoorsman24; 07-12-2017, 09:15 AM.
