    Would it be Monday without a Snake ID thread?

    This guy was lounging at my pool when i got home for lunch. Austin TX (Avery Ranch)

    Do I need to move?

                  I've said it before and I'll say it again. There are only two kinds of snakes on this earth...

                  The rattlesnakes are easy to identify because of the rattles. All other snakes are cobras. Kill them all.

                    It appears to be a juvenile rattlesnake. Quite a few people consider them more dangerous than the adults in that the younger snakes seldom "dry bite" (bite without injecting venom). I read an article recently stating that the majority of venomous snake bites occurred when handling, or attempting to handle the snake, and that the victims were predominantly male - as in "...hold my beer and watch this."

                      Measured ~16". He managed to isolate himself on the concrete peninsula between my hot tub and pool..... so he had to go.
