Default Red River NM Vacation Recap

Rolled in this evening from a week with the family in Red River/Eagle Nest/ Angel Fire. The weather was fantastic all week- mid-70s before the afternoon rains- often upper 50s in the evenings.

Fishing was great. River flow was up- more like June than late July. Plenty of stocker rainbows in and below town. Fawn Lakes was closed (and mostly drained) but the lake at Questa was open and well stocked.

Eagle Nest reservoir was higher than Ive ever seen it from the winter runoff. We rented s pontoon boat early in the week. My wide and daughter caught yellow perch as fast as I could bait hooks and remove fish. My son was determined to catch his first pike. His persistence paid off. We rented a smaller boat later in the week and had another good day of pike fishing.

Also explored midnight meadows and Cabresto Creek. Nice day if fly fishing there catching brooks and browns. Again, flows more like early summer than late. Really enjoy fishing pretty places and fishing wild fish.

Red River was busier than weve seen it on our 7 years of summer vacations. The new brew pub was slammed every day.

Now back to the heat...

Awesome, my family loves Red River. My wife’s parents have a condo up there, so we go a few times a year. We were there the 13-19th. The water was definitely more like early June than mid July. Me and my buddy are heading up there next weekend to fish for a few days. The Costilla is just starting to heat up!

Sounds like a great time, I've never been there in the summer. Went many years when snow is on the ground.

we are thinking about taking a trip in Feb, we've never been there but always hear great things about it.

For skiing and snowboarding in a laid back small town with no lift lines it can't be beat.

Thanks, that seems to be the consensus, hoping we can make it work.

We just got back a few weeks ago. Agreed it was busier than we have ever seen it in 20yrs. New beer joint is killer.
