Had a busy weekend being my son’s birthday over the weekend. Him and his buddies stayed up late Saturday night so I knew I could get a hunt in Sunday morning while everyone was sleeping. Got in the stand early about 530am, it was a calm 42 degrees. Feeder went off at 715am and it was unusually quiet. Can almost always hear stuff around at that time. Started to get a little discouraged as I’ve been after 2 nice shooters that come sporadically to the feeder. Well after about an hour of sitting in the quiet after feeder went off, I hear some leaves crunching. All I could see was a body at first, than partial horns. I knew he was a decent deer just couldn’t get a good eye on him. He slowly made his way into my feeder opening and at that point I was already clipped on to my D-Loop ready in case I wanted him. After looking close I could see kickers off both G2s and said to myself “**** it’s that 14pt”. After I took a couple deep breaths, I drew back and let one fly. Upon walking up to him I realized it wasn’t the 14 I was after but a diff deer I had never seen before with the same kickers. He ended up still being a 14pt but in a different way. He’s a 10pt with kickers off both G2s and also has 2 kickers off the bases of his main beams. Either way I’m extremely happy with him and glad to know the others are out there for hopefully another breeding this year at the least.
