Default Chandelier for my niece

My niece was wanting me to make her a light fixture to hang above her table, for her birthday. Her and her husband just bought their first house and money is tight so she came to Uncle Bob who, as rumor has it, is pretty easy when the nieces are concerned.

The first picture is the drawing she sent and the bent pieces.

Second picture is the ply wood jig for the bending. It has a 3/8" groove routed around the edge to fit the tubing to keep it from bending.

The hardest part of the whole thing is welding the threaded lamp tubing pieces to the 3/8" od tube. Just a couple little tacks but very carefully.

I used a 3/8" fender washer for the plate ll the tubing would weld into. Two of the gaps were left a little larger to facilitate getting the nozzle of the mig gun into to weld the plate to the cylinder of the housing. A jog had to be set up to get the first two straight across from one another.

Another jig was set up to get the rest in exactly the same as the first two.

Next was welding the pocket washers to a nut that will thread onto the lamp tubing.

The next thing was building the ring at the top. It has to be hollow so the wire can go through it.

The light bar has to be cut down and welded into the housing where the wiring will be done. The housing is 2" emt. Even leaving me a little larger gaps still made for some tricky welding.

It's all assembled now and ready for the finish.

The finish is Glider's Paste to make it look like aged copper/brass.

The candle tubes are plastic and had to be painted first to hold the Gilder's Paste.

Bob, beautiful work. Looks like I’m not far from you. If you’d like to reuse the jig, I might like to pay you to make a duplicate. This could be just what we need for our space. Please PM me.
