Which shotgun barrel type holds up better?

To buckshot and slugs? This would be mainly for home defense. Will also use it from time to time on snakes and other critters. Never owned a shotgun with a rifled barrel.

A rifled barrel will never pattern shot consistently but will shoot slugs better.

Smooth bore and buy rifled slugs would be your best bet if trying to run both

A 410 or a 590 The rest of them are thin as a curtain rod.

Like westtex said. If you have a rifled barrel you shoot smooth slugs but don't think it patterns buckshot and birdshot as well. Best of both worlds is smooth bore.

I’d think you would prefer buckshot over slugs anyway. Smooth bore + 00 buck= a heck of a mess to clean up!

Most do not believe me when I tell them the number of pigs I have killed with 7.5 birdshot while quail hunting.
