    Camcorder upgrade questions

    Hey guys, I am thinking about upgrading to a better camcorder. All I have right now is a sony handycam. My question is if I get a HD camcorder, can I film in standard def also? I would rather get an HD camcorder because everything will probably be in HD within a couple of years. Also does anyone know what lines of resolution equal broadcast quality? I think I read somewhere that 500 lines of resolution equals broadcast quality but i am not sure.
