I am living through your posts. I have always dreamt of owning a piece of property but I don't have the time I will once I get done working for uncle Sam

If that was taken on 6/7, he has a lot of growth to do, but his base doesn't look too big, so my initial thoughts are that he will be on the under side of 13" inside spread and most likely 1 or 2 years old. But that is going off just antler base. Not his brisket, or stomach, or back, or old knees... so who knows. You should get more pictures soon.

Since the deer are showing up, I set out a 50lb trace mineral block for them today.

I also topped off the feeder with 500lbs of the yellow crack, and will be putting out a salt block soon also.

One of my neighbors is shredding the front pasture and easement now, since my place was looking like a jungle with all of these rains! Pics to come

No, but I am in desperate need of one!

Sell me a setup that will incorporate a security box for my covert, and a mounting solution for my solar panel!

If you hope to see more deer i think your gonna need to put hog panels around that feeder. Deer dont wanna come around a bunch of stinking pigs! Had the same problem on my lease, once we put the panels up the deer started coming back and the hogs moved on to an easier place to eat.

All in all, it was about 1500, but it's 6x10 and will last a lifetime, so I'm pretty happy about the value.

The only remaining work I have to do on it is two more pieces of fascia, add soffits, and add some "storm windows" (plywood on hinges) to protect the windows for whenever the weather gets really nasty.

I hear ya! It's a balancing act, because I want both of them there.

Between a Colorado trip, selling my house, moving from Round Rock to San Marcos, my third child being born, and starting a new job, I have been BUUUUUUUUSY!

Sorry for the lack of updates, folks. But, I have good news!

First of all, I was able to get my entire East fenceline cleaned up, finally. A local guy with a big dozer came and did two passes, which came out to a gorgeous 20ft wide clearing, that stretches about 1500'.

Secondly, I GOT A CABIN! A coworker of mine has given me a 16x12 shed/cabin that needs some work, but is a whole lot more than starting from scratch!

Here's the scoop on it. A guy tried to add on an additional 10 feet so it, but did a mickey mouse job of it. So, I need to remove that part, and build out a new wall to replace it.

Aside from that, I just need to replace the shingles with tin, and finish out the inside. But, the walls and floors and roof are all solid and not rotted or otherwise screwed up!

It will be perfect for a few bunks, a table and a kitchenette!

SO EXCITED!

Dang you have been busy! Been wondering how your ranch has been coming along. Congratulations on everything new in your life! Can't wait to see pictures of the cabin.

Update on the cabin: it is about 12x28!

I need to rip out some moisture damaged cheapo peeling on the inside, and will likely end up just reskinning it in new plywood. But even so, the floor is solid and the roof is good as well!

So....anyone want to chip in on how to get it to the ranch?

Put support columns in the middle and split it into 2 pieces. I doubt you would want to panel the whole thing out.

Just found and read this from start to now and you have done a great job.
I agree on how life can interrupt the ranch work. I usually end up working the whole time I am at my place. Keep it up and I'll be following this thread closely.

Seeing your fence line has got me motivated. I called your dozer guy and he said he is ready anytime I want to start.
I also found someone in Caldwell that uses a forestry mulcher, and I like that even better. Although it is double what the dozer work costs, so I maybe going dozer.....

I'll be up at our place on "Black Friday", hauling off some cr@p to the dump in Anderson. If you have anything to go, your welcome to throw it on my trailer. (16 footer)

I met him and had him check out my place. He was very polite and professional, and his equipment is the real deal, but I just can't drop 3k to clean my fence line.

If he could do that and undercut an acre, I would be tempted. But that would be about the top of my budget.
My place is half your size though, so who knows.

Let me know if your going be up there then.

Have yall contacted the NRCS??? Idk what size is "too small" for them to help with but there is a LOT of government cheese running around for clearing

Most pre-fab building folks will move for you. They have a special trailer and know how to make it look easy. If you tear off the addition a flatbed wrecker may be able to haul it if its not too tall.

Since you have to repair anyway, I would separate the two to clean up that patch job and haul them separately. It is on skids so just back the flatbed trailer up to it. Then jack up the side of the building, then back under it slowly. A winch on trailer or rear of truck would help. We have moved one like it several times. ALso helps to put soap on trail so building slids on.
