Nothing beats being in the blind with the love of my life, my AR, a cooler of beer, and some yummy snacks!

We are spending the night in the blind tonight so I can try to catch up with the two big sounders of pigs hitting my feeder!

Just rabbits so far!

I stayed up until 10, then set my alarm for 4am. Hoping to see them here soon since they frequent the feeder at 4-6am often.

Just eating an apple and waiting to see the piggies in this nearly full moon!

I have the Mr. Buddy going (while I'm awake), and sleeping bags. The wifey was cold so I swapped sleeping bags with her and layered her up more.

Wow.
I'm impressed.
I have a similar sized piece of land (~20acres) in ETX and am trying to figure out ways to "work" it.
Thus far all I've come up with is a 1/3 acre bluegill pond.
There are deer on the property and surrounding areas as I saw one myself darting across the road that runs through my property into the bush and I met a hunter that hunts the 200 acres behind mine.

My first order of business is I need to buy a tractor of some sort so I can do some bush hogging and knock down a few trees

Well, airehead and I got a camper set up at the ranch today, set up a tripod right by the feeder for bow hunting, and a new covert cam!

Next up is pulling power to the camper, and building the corral trap around the feeder!

Do you think that stand will work? I think you will be busted long before an animal comes in.

You should put it back in the brush and maybe a burlap piece in front of it

very cool thread just read it all!

I like following along on these kinds of threads as we have recently done this to our place. Couple things:
1. Any deer pics this past season
2. Glad you moved that limb over the blind, I saw that problem coming with that tree ruining the blind.
3. Your camera looks to be too far away and/or low based on the pics posted

When you are sitting on that tripod, you are very camouflaged against the tree, and it is no problem at all.

No deer on camera this season unfortunately. But, things are getting better in my area every year, and I expect to be seeing them before too long. In regard to the camera, I already tested it and it is more than adequately able to catch emotion and photograph things under the feeder.

if this is for night time only hunting tripod should be fine. But if they start showing during the day you will only be able to fool them 1 time. I would push it back the brush. For nothing more than to be able to move a bit more.

The good thing is it's very easy to move one person can move it around by themselves with no trouble.
It's really neat place out there and I enjoyed the visit!!

Yo Mitch, yes, this is intended for nocturnal bow hunting of the piggies. For daytime shooting, I'll just sit in my Taj Mahal blind

Just a quick update - I sent my old man out to the ranch last weekend while I was in South Texas hunting Javelina. I had been telling him to get out there and chase this one sounder of pigs that had been coming in like clockwork.

I left 200 pounds of corn, a record rack deer block, and some Pig Out cherry molasses stuff in my blind for him, so he could really spice up the area. He buried the block, poured two liters of big red on top of it, added corn and pig out on the surface. This is what I call "The Hog Bomb" - where you go all out and make the biggest pile of sweet stink you can.

Well, he was sitting in the blind when the feeder went off with it's daily four second spray. He stepped out to **** on the big oak behind the blind, so he'd be good to go for whenever the pigs showed up. Well, while he was mid-stream, he looked through the windows of the blind to the feeder and BAM - there they were! They had been sleeping in the yaupons apparently, and came right out when the feeder went off!

So he quickly packed his gear back in his pants, slipped in the blind, and sent a round of 45-70 straight into the ear of a nice 170lb boar!

I'm so happy for him since this is his first kill at the ranch, and hopefully there are many more to come for him!

I have a very similar tripod and the only time I got a drop on a deer was when they came running by. If they wandered in, I was pretty much busted. Even for the hogs, I'd consider cutting into the tree a bit. I would cut a wedge so that I could stick on leg in as close to the trunk as possible. It worked as long as the deer walked in broadside.

I told my 9 year old this year that the deer won't come in if you are moving around. He had to go pee so I sent him off to go pee. When he walked back into our ground blind I told him he had to move slowly because 4 bucks walked in while he was in the woods doing his business

Did you stick any Javis?

Oh, for those commenting on the tripod, I moved it back farther away, so the shooter is now about 18 yards from underneath the feeder.

If anything comes in, all you need to do is sit still until it's by the feeder and then it's a total chip shot
