I think it depends on what you plant and how hot it is. I tried this with several black mineral tubs and didn't have very good results the last couple of years. I believe the soil gets too hot, being in that size container above ground. I didn't have a problem with peppers.
I've had great success using molasses tubs. I've planted tomatoes, peppers, kale, strawberries, and lettuce. I use a mix of top soil, compost, and I use Osmocote around the plants.
I've had mine in a month..tomatoes have small tomatoes on them and broccoli is huge already. Cilantro is doing food .onions are 12 " garlic is 12 " also.
ive had my plants in the garage all winter getting them ready to plant and they have been in the ground since early February. Red and white onions, coloflour, broccoli, Bells, and tomatoes. Everything already has fruit. The broccoli is the size of 2 fist together in my garden. I put potatoes in 5G buckets and im stacking them till they get to tall to deal with. Ill post some pics tomorrow.
