DIY Counter tops and backsplash

So my wife is at again with Pinterest. She came to me with a crazy idea of doing the countertops with solid core doors. I was definitely a skeptic but they turned out pretty good. A ton cheaper than the granite she wanted.

Six coats of poly so far. We're going to see how those hold up and go from there.

Backsplash is a whole new monster. We went with a mosaic tile with glass, slate, travertine, and tumbled marble. It's not complete but here is where we're at so far.

We had the exact same backsplash put in about a month ago.

Lowes had it for $11sq ft. Got the same exact tile at Costco for $5sq ft.
