Kids on the water instead of on the streets...

So I was out on my patrol today when I decided to cruise through a neighborhood that surrounds a private lake. I happens upon three boys between the ages of 9-13. I saw they had a few fishing rods in the water, so I stopped to chit chat with them. Of course one of the first questions I asked was if the fish were biting. The oldest boy speaks up and says, "it's been kinda slow since I caught a 54 pound catfish."

Feeling that this was a "fish tale", I asked if he had any proof. He then pointed to a rope that was tied to a tree and said, "want me to pull him up for you?"

He then proceeds to haul a monster yellow cat out of the water and put him on shore for me to gawk at. He said he caught him using a rod and reel with a live perch as bait. He let me snap a couple of photos of his catch.

The lake was a private lake and it made my heart happy to see young kids fishing instead of getting into trouble.

Honestly, I'd given my left arm to have the chance to grab my rod and reel and join them.

Said he fought him for an hour. I believe him!

I asked if he was going to eat him and he said, "Heck Yeah!" I told him it would probably feed his whole family for a few meals.

GBird, if you can remember, next time you see Will, ask him about the time he went with me to run trot lines in the Trinity, and we pulled up to the log and the gator was lying beside it I thought he was gonna do a somersault in the boat 😂

That is awesome. I always like to hear about boys at that age on their own adventures and having a great story to tell at the end. That's a nice big cat.
