Question

Is there room on this team for a new member this year? I will gladly contribute to the costs and lend a hand (albeit meager) from time to time.

Barring anything coming up at work, we should be there Friday night to set up the pit and ready to roll Saturday morning early. If anyone has any good contacts for baby back ribs, that will be helpful, I can come up with them in a pinch but my usual connections have dried up. 72 racks has been the magic number for years.

RascalArms, we are open to any and all, welcome! Legdog normally coordinates just look for more as we get closer.

Default Team Rib 2017

When it comes to planning, we are slow starters and strong finishers. New guys are ALWAYS welcome and needed. It only takes a week or so to find the stuff we need so this team usually does not heat up until March.

Please don't let this deter anyone.

It goes something like this...

We light pits at dawn and pray that the ribs don't arrive frozen (but they always do). Most of the work is done the first hour or so as we bring pits to temp, and prep ribs to accept smoke. We like mature fires so that's always the first order of business. Next comes setting up tables and shade, laying out the ribs for prep, removing membrane, adding mustard conduit and various rubs and then loading pits. We typically celebrate with a shot of patron and a few group photos as we settle in to watch temperature gauges and tell lies.

It's a busy start that turns into an easy coast that allows ample time to wander around and take in the fine culinary contributions that make Bownanza what it is.

Bring a chair if you need to get off your feet and bring a few beverages to share. It's a long day so it's best to try and get to bed on Friday at a decent hour but the majority break this rule every year. It's tradition.

Ribs are also expensive and 72 racks adds up. Everyone needs to bring a couple of crisp twenties to help reimburse GJ.

Looking forward to it. It's always a blast, rain or shine.

Does team dessert need help? I guess I need to read the thread.

I'm not planning on desert but if it's a big need maybe I can hire my sister to make her famous chocolate chip cookies...

Team Dessert has always been a potluck style team with desserts brought from all kinds of folks and teams at Bownanza. (well at least the last 4 years Team CW has been involved with it and the two prior years where I brought desserts for the team and wasn't on a team). There are no real team members. Just a set of tables, ez ups, space, eating utensils and plates supplied by Team Chicken Wing.. plus several of us bring desserts to help fill the table. We get desserts from all facets of Bownanza teams and even from folks not on teams.

No big deal either way Leggy. We were just looking to see how many tables and ezups we might need. It's not a gave too as we all have time and money involved with other teams. We usually get guys asking if their wives can bring something. Or in the case of Mr. Prosser or me we bring what our wives make

After covering the expenses of printed cups (on order with Jim) and a few bottles of Tito's, tips collected by Team Bloody Mary will go towards ribs.

If anyone has an extra EZ Up, I could probably use one. I will set up next to Team Rib as usual.

GJ lost his source for ribs. If anybody knows an alternate, let us know. Otherwise we'll order from Sam's.

In need to know quick if y'all would like for me to purchase the ribs you team rib?

We can settle up and nanza or PayPal.

How many cases do y'all need if y'all want me to supply the ribs? I will be in college station before noon Friday. I have a safety meeting to attend at Los Cucos.
