how's the turkey population at Lake Aquilla? Harvest numbers were a little strange in 2016 compared to 2015

Howdy Justin! Glad to see ya. And glad ya got spell-n "Fellers" right unlike most around this sight who spell it "fellas" . I always spell it "Fellers" too . Hope everything is going better for ya now.

HR3, I ain't been out there this spring yet. But shouldn't be to much different from the history I've seen. Maybe someone else will have a more definitive answer for ya.

Well that was a long road trip. I started my day at 2 am on Fri, went and loaded a uhaul truck for my daughter Alex and drove to El Paso getting there at 5 a.m. . My son in law and I unloaded the truck and waited for my wife to show up (1230) we went to have lunch and toured the town and mountains and finally got to bed at the late hour of 8pm. We were on the road at 5 and just got home at 330 . I'm tired and sitting here drinking a beer waiting for sleep to overtake me. In my younger days it wouldn't bother me but man my body hurts right now.

I'm looking for a multi day Fish-camp stay where the wind is going to be nice to me. I'm ready to dump some jug-lines in the water! And load up on some cats. This one day of mild winds, then a week of higher winds ain't cutting it. Anybody got a wind switch to turn it off?

If it wasn't for having to have 10-day gear tags on trot-lines, I'd put-em out and leave-em. Jug-lines require a gear-tag too. But harder to recover jug-lines when they've been sitting out a week.

Thursday through Sunday are look-n like possible on the water days for me. Might go drop some jug-lines on a mud flat or creek channel. But also got crappie bite-n on another place. What to do?

If they weren't so far apart, I would . But that's a lot of drag-n the boat back and forth, launch-n, trailer-n, and relaunching for a single day.

I hope your good too Stink Bait. We aught-a meet up sometime. I've been known to have TBH Get-2-gethers (aka lunch, Happy Hour, get-2-gether, or TBH HH) in Cleburne and Burleson. Next one in Cleburne will be in August, an annual lunch thing we do. Burleson is kinda random and spotty. There are many more across the state. You should come to one sometime so you can put some more names with some faces.

I haven't been able to fish in over a week. And tomorrow and Friday is looking like I"m gonna go. I want to set put some jugs at the W lake. But want to crappie fish on another lake too, while their good.
If I go to the W lake, I'll prob stay over night.

Puts things in perspective doesn't it. Makes your mind go in all the worst places while your waiting to get checked out. Here's to many more years with family and friends and time in the woods doing what we love.

Won't be a problem as long as I can get on the hole. Lotta people saw me yanking fish out of the water today . Some even tried to troll within 10 yards of my boat while I was anchored out the whole time (5 hours). But that only stirred up the fish and made them bite more. I was catching fish right behind their boat. They'd just stop and stare at me while I was reel-n them in from behind their boat after they just trolled by . Then they would turn around and do it again, and so would I.

Is Nolan river safe to wade in with Granbury letting water out? Plan on going in the morning but wanted to make sure I wouldn't be at risk if I was out wading.

W lake is still coming up slightly. Grandbury is still releasing water. PK has cut back on it's water release. But is still letting a little out. Aquilla is already and still above normal. Wonder how much rain will contribute to either lake's rise. The W lake may not get as much run-off to affect it. But Aquilla might. And it rose to above 3' after the last rain.

Storm, the W lake is still 2.2 feet low. I'm not that sure it will get enough to bring it up to normal. Most of the really heavy rains will be running in a line from SW to NE and moving SE from there. They really won't start till the get to about the W lake. I don't think it will get enough run-off to affect the lake much more than what Grandbury is affecting it. The Middle Trinity River basin will get a good one this time around.
Just noticed Grandbury cut it's release back by almost 1/2 since I last posted here. PK is still releasing a little. I would almost bet Aquilla will rise again. It doesn't take much to raise that lake. And I'm thinking Waco might get a good rise.

I certainly don't want to see the campgrounds flooded again either.

For the last 24 hours.

Clifton got a little over 3 inches in the Bosque River guage.
Valley Mills is above 3" but below 3.5 and still rising in the Bosque River guage. They are getting rain right now.
Nolan River at Blum about .38", less than 1 inch.
Lake Aquilla got tad over 3.5 inches.
And Aquilla Creek about 2.85 inches.

Here's a link to help ya out. It's not all inclusive. But has some important data points:

Whitney is 1.5 feet low. Grandbury and PK continue to let some water out. But not a lot.

Aquilla on the other hand, is 4.67 feet above normal at the moment. And still rising while it's releasing water.

Ugh I want to go fishing and turkey hunting but my truck is in baaaaad shape. Trying to find another cheap one to get me back and forth from the rig (and the lake) while either we repair this one or we rebuild our credit enough to get a better one. I hate vehicle shopping.

I changed the signature in my android to the one below. Got tired of the "sent from my galaxy " thing.

So haven't hog hunted since Feb. But got 27 jug lines soaking right now. Been hard to catch bait till Hushpuppy Man got here. On his 3rd throw had plenty of shad for this evening and tomorrow. Got a few cats. And lost a good one to a submerged tree using fresh shad and cut perch.

Fish are bite-n. And there's hogs to be kilt. Gotta go!

Cats are biteing. You just have to find them. I re-baited almost every jug this morning with live perch or shad. I just didn't catch anything worth talking about. Bunch of bait robbers, unless you like smaller cats . Had every one of my live perch stolen. And every hook stripped of shad when I pulled them up at noon today. People next to me had a pretty good mess of 3lb catfish and were having a fish fry this evening. I got invited. But I was there for the peace and quite. They were expecting 20 or so people.

Rod and reel. I leave for work tomorrow so don't have time for all the other stuff. Not getting any real bites so far. Can hear a gobbler not to far away though, I tried calling him but he only answered a few times I may not be very good at calling lol I've never been able to see one to test my calling on
