Finally have a slab in! They were able to pour Friday. Took 70 yards. They did a great job.

So I got the great idea of asking my slab guy if he would be interested in cutting my water line in, as opposed to me renting a trencher and doing it myself. He agreed, and said to just spot him a little for fuel. Made up for his delay in pouring lol, and saved me $ and time.

Metal building will be delivered this Wednesday, and they will start erecting Thursday. Got all my water line laid yesterday (sore shoulders, laying 320' by myself!), just need to add a T by the light pole so I can have water for the camper.

Now I'm stuck trying to decide between a standard septic with ET beds, or just go aerobic. We are in heavy clay, so it's going to cost a lot in material for a standard system. I was quoted 15k, as opposed to 8k for aerobic. But, my father installed standard systems back in the day, and can save some $ doing it himself. Idk.

More pictures to follow later on in the week!

That is nice! Can't wait to follow the rest of the construction. Looking at doing something similar back in MS where my grandpa's house stood.

Not much else to report. I'm at my wits end with the guy who's putting the metal building up. He is taking his sweet time with everything. I might be creating a seperate thread on how to handle a breach of contract. We have a not to exceed March 31st. I don't know if he'll have it done by then. 2.5 months for a metal building is crazy. Anyways, I laid my waterline since my last post, and planted 40 trees. Nice having water now at the site. They finally started with the building by welding the beams to the slab, and welding trusses together.

He can probably have the metal building up in less than a week when it comes to it. They go up quick.

That's what is eating at me. 30 days should have been more than enough to finish this project.

I assume he has other projects and know that he has till the end of march on yours so he keeps putting you off. I'd have a heart to heart if he is holding up your progress.

I have a horror story dealing with a contractor in Montague county for metal buildings, talk about breach of contract. We want to build a smaller barndo, so I'm jumping in this thread to follow along.

Project is taking entirely too long. They finally started coming up with the structure. What I thought was going to be a someone pleasant and exciting time has actually caused my blood pressure to stay boiling. Can't wait to have the building done and to let everyone here know who not to use.

18" deep on the water line. I sweet talked my slab guy in digging the trench with his mini excavator before leaving. What I paid him was still cheaper than what renting a ditch witch would have been. I ran 1.25" the whole way.

Looking great. FYI plumbing fixtures and cabinets are budget busters. That being said, it is cheaper in the long run to do it the way you want it the first time.

I have heard that before. I am actually going out and cutting a bunch of cedars and having a college buddy make our cabinets. I hope between supplying the wood, and the ol buddy discount, cabinets wont be too hard on the budget.

I agree with this! We went cheap on some of the plumbing fixtures when we built and have already replaced them within 2 years.

I hired a guy to erect my 30 x 70 building after I finished the slab. He started on Tuesday at 10:00 am and was calling me to get paid at 6:00 pm on Wed. I couldn't believe it. He had 12 people on it because he was between jobs. Worked out great for me.

Just seeing this. No sir, actually nothing has been done on this project since my last post. I had one h*ll of a come to Jesus talk with my Contractor today. I flew off the handle when I went out there at lunch and no one was working. It is about to get really nasty, as he is 3 days away from a breach in contract.

Funny you brought this up, as I was just about to post on it. It will be a breach after today, and we will be discussing our options tonight.

I unloaded a months worth of anxiety over this project on the 28th to the contractor. Of course they have been out there working from dusk till dawn after I threatened litigation due to the breach.
This is what was done as of yesterday.

Right off the bat when I walked up, I knew something wasnt right with the steel door in the back. Pulled out the tape measure, and yep, my back door to the shop was in the Master bedroom. They are going to have to cut it out and redo the door.

My first big surprise expense has been fill dirt. An added $3200 that I had not planned for.

Wish I'd seen this earlier. My dad has a good amount of fill dirt that he just wants to be gone. All you'd have to do is haul it.

No, he was more of conventional builder who thought he could do a metal building too, apparently.

This would be the better option for us, but I still get major heartburn thinking about cutting those I beams.

Im going to drop by every day after work this week to build Ts and corners, then start framing again this weekend. Hope to get most of the framing done by Sunday.
