Shot a ram two weeks ago and really wasn’t looking forward to eating it, but since I have been firm about “you kill it you eat it” with my kids, I knew we’d have to find some way to choke it down. Thankfully my ram was not an old one, and the meat did not stink at all.
I took it to Granny’s Tamales in Humble and told them to work their magic. And magic, they did. I only asked for 30 dozen and told them they could keep whatever meat was left over. I just didn’t want to spend $400 on a ram not knowing whether we’d like it. They probably used the quarters and kept the backstrap for themselves, but since I brought the carcass intact I don’t mind. They boned it out, cooked the meat, and disposed of the skeleton. Worth it for a couple of ram back straps.
So, we got em home and they are awesome! I will not hesitate to shoot another ram. The tamales are fantastic!
Highly recommend all Houston peeps give Granny’s a try if you haven’t already.
