Old single shot 12gauge for slug hunting?

Any of you folks out there that hunt deer with a 12 gauge use a single shot? I've got one that's been in the family since well before I was born and since I've been old enough to shoot it I've done so. Anything to look out for with an older shotgun and slugs?

I’ve shot deer with a 20 gauge single shot. Slugs. Pine plantation. Less than 30 yards.

Plan on having your teeth aligned. If the gun is light you will feel quite a bit of recoil.

I do but it’s a dedicated slug gun. H&R ultra slug in 20 ga. With hornady sst it is deadly to 150 yards

My first shotgun was a single 20, full choke and killed my 1st deer with a slug
