This was my 8 year old’s first year on the gun. He killed 4 deer with a .223 AR-15. We used 64 grain power point bullets. Shots ranged from 67 to 132 yards. He’s shooting behind the shoulder and we didn’t have a deer make it further than 40 yards after being shot. They will all work if you use them within their limitations.

I have a 223 that I have used for deer, works ok, it kills quickly with good shot placement. My main deer rifle right now is chambered for 270 AR, a wildcat round for a AR 15, produces very similar to 270 Win. ballistics. Then I am working on a 458 SOCOM and eventually a 6.5 Grendel. I keep hearing good things about both the 48 SOCOM and the Grendel. I can't wait to use both.

I shoot .223 ammo out of my 5.56. I’m currently using 55 grain VMax. This is my 2nd season using it.
To date I’ve taken 6 deer and 5 pigs with it.
Closet shot was 15 yds longest was 238.
Furthest the deer ran was 40 yds.
Furthest a pig has run is 75 yds. I hit him in the heart. Not sure why he ran that far.
