    Record price for junior steer

Bids rolled in for the Grand Champion Steer on the last day of the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. In the end, ‘Cupid Shuffle’ went for $300,000, the highest amount ever paid in the Junior Steer Competition, and Ryder Day will get to keep every penny. “It’s pretty special and amazing that this happened. I’m very surprised,” Ryder said….

Craziest part about it to me was seeing a pair of Herefords going 1 & 2 in a major show.....

Heck of a payday for a 12 yr old. He put some work in to win it I'm sure.

Someone in a different tax bracket than most of us needed a tax right off.

I am blessed to know and have worked with the Day family. They are top notch all the way around! I can only imagine the excitement!

Meh, $700K+ at Houston last year, FW gotta be better.

Just kidding around, I’m on the steer auction committee for Houston, and when those first few start going for those huge numbers, it’s pretty exciting in there.

I hear they are a fantastic family, my kids Ag teacher buys most of the steers from him. I’ll be headed up there March 6 to get next years steer.

Kid and family seem to be genuinely nice. Congrats to them. Lots of time and money put into that project.

Meh, and the kid gets less than a 100K of that at Houston and in FW they get every penny.

I loved showing at Houston and if my daughters want to we will show there when they are older but the way they distribute the money is a crock. Its borderline socialism where kids/families that put into it for years can end up with nothing and someone who has never been involved at any level can be awarded a scholarship for 5 figures.

Now I'm all for you win you get all the money but it shouldnt have to do with how many years you've been involved. If someone shows up with the best animal their first year then "pay that man his money".

I agree with that as well. I was referencing the scholarships that are paid out every year to kids that never contributed or even stepped foot on rodeo grounds outside of a concert.
