I made my first batch with the intent of giving it away for Christmas. Forget that!

I like it, but I noticed when I drink it I have a hard time falling asleep. My husband thinks I'm an alcoholic now. The fist sip, for me, was stout, but by the time I finished the first glass, I couldn't taste the alcohol. Hmmmm

Had trouble finding Apple cider, surprisingly sold out at a couple places I checked tonight. Does it need to be the fresh refrigerated apple cider or will the room temperature cider sold on the shelves work? They sure are much different looking

1/2 gal apple juice
1/2 gal apple cider
1 cup white sugar
1 cup dark brown sugar
6 cinnamon sticks
1 tablespoon of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of nutmeg
8 Apples

Combine all ingredients in a pot, slice up apples into wedges. Add the apples to the mix, no need to core them.
Bring all the ingredients and bring to a boil, once it starts to roll turn down to simmer, simmer and keep checking your apples for softness. After about 10 minutes of simmering remove from heat and let stand. Keep pressing your apples for softness and get the flavor in the pot.
Once they are really soft strain through cheese cloth, smash the apples in the cheese cloth to get the juice from them.
Put pot back on heat and reheat to give a final blend, don't boil.
Once heated remove from heat and set in sink with cold water to cool mix. (This may take twice)

Once cooled to luke warm or cooler add 750ml of Everclear, mix and stir well. I also have added more Everclear (another 3/8 bottle) and it will give it a little more kick and still smooth as can be.

Double the recipe and will make 20 or so pints.

Saw this. Thought I'd share this on here.

Chocolate Covered Cherry Moonshine
Ingredients
1 750ml bottle of 190 proof everclear – If you can’t get this in your state, a high proof vodka will work also
1 750ml bottle of chocolate liqueur – I used Crave Chocolate Truffle
2 jars of 32 oz tart cherry juice
1 large jar of maraschino cherries
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
Any size mason jars of your choosing
Directions
To get this chocolate covered cherry moonshine recipe going, bring the cherry juice to a boil in a larger pot. Once boiling, add in the large jar of maraschino cherries and 1/2 cup of both white and brown sugar. Stir for a few minutes until all the sugar is dissolved. At that point, turn the heat off and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.
Once cooled to room temperature, pour in 2 1/2 cups of the everclear into the mixture along with 1 full cup of the chocolate liqueur. Feel free to add more everclear if you like. The cherry hides the alcohol taste very well so you can probably get away with a whole bottle of the everclear if you are feeling froggy. I like strong booze though so more isn’t a problem for me. I intentionally made this batch a little weaker because I was bringing this for a family gathering and was more concerned with taste than effect. However you roll is up to you.

Market Street and some of the other grocery stores around me sell. A plus is that they sell it in a one gallon glass jug that turns out to be quite handy to temporarily store the moonshine.

Made my first batch today and it tastes great. Earlier someone asked if anyone has tested for alcohol content . I scanned through the posts but may have missed it if there was a response. I calculated it to be 16 % alcohol by volume, or 32 proof. Does that sound about right ?

I don't know if that is correct, but 32 proof is really weak. You would have to drink a gallon of it to get anywhere, considering that most liquor is around 80 proof.

1 gallon of fluff to 750 ml bottle of everclear weakens it a lot...

190 proof drops way below 80 proof when diluted that much....

it's probably somewhere in the 40 proof range, 20% or a very, very strong wine...

probably quite tasty, but sounds way to sweet for my liking

Made some super stout Peach Shine today. Dang good stuff!

I used 1000 ml of 190 proof Everclear in 128 oz liquid. Most recipes call for 750 ml.

On the peach shine I use 2 64 oz jugs of white grape peach juice. 6 cinnamon sticks. 1 cup white granulated sugar. 2 15 oz cans of sliced peaches in heavy syrup. Do not drain.

Mix all that in a big stock pot and bring to a boil.

Then cover and simmer for 30 minutes.

Take off heat and let come to room temp.

After its at room temp, I take out all the peaches and cinnamon sticks and then pour the mixture through cheese cloth into a pitcher.

Then add at least 750 ml of 190 proof Everclear. Mix that together and then pour into clean ball jars.

You can put a couple of the peach slices into each jar if you want, but they are pretty mushy after being in the pot. So buy an extra can of peaches or whole fruit peaches and slice...Store in a cool dark place for 3-6 weeks. The longer the better.

I used 1000 ml Everclear in this batch.

I tried a couple shots of this right after I mixed it up. The Everclear flavor was strooooong!!!!!!

After a few days, I can't taste the Everclear at all.

I throw rocks at the cinnamon apple pie shine now. Lol.

The peach slices in the jars kinda kick up the sweetness, so I say try some with and without slices. See how you like it.

Serve cold!!!!

Oh. And cheers!

Im actually going to crack at this tomorrow. Just to be clear though, what's the difference between apple cider and apple juice? In aus its the same thing only cider is carbonated.

We have two types of juice, regular (which looks like dehydrated wee), and cloudy which i guess i a bit more pulpy?

I use white grape peach juice. Or a blend called peach medley. I'm more of a peach shine fan than a peach pie fan. I don't use all the sugars and such. I'll throw in some cinnamon sticks and a little brown sugar, but not the amount of sugar the recipes online call for.

With apple pie shine, I use 1/2 apple juice and 1/2 apple cider....and yes, the cider is less refined as far as I can tell as it has a lot of particles in it.

As far as using vodka goes, you sure can use it....although I think the everclear taste mellows out a lot more than the vodka does but I have limited experience using vodka in homemade shine like this.

Tonight I made peach. One batch was just a tick over the recommended everclear, and the second batch was over double the amount of everclear....hence the red "X" on those jars. Lol.

I tried a sample of the juice before adding the alcohol and it was great. I threw a couple peach slices is each jar, mixed up the peach juice and everclear in a pitcher, and filled the jars. Whew it's some strong tasting stuff. It'll mellow out in time.

Reminder: let your peach or apple juice concoction come to room temp before adding your alcohol to prevent it from cooking out.

I have a quart jar of sugar shine a buddy in LA gave me. I put 3 cloves, a vanilla bean and a cinnamon stick in it back in October and its been aging. Think this recipe will be a great way to cut it.

This was some good shizzle. I will be taking the "pie" out of all my future batches because of Skinny's product. No overly sweet syrupy stuff. Just smooth goodness with a little sweet...

Thinking about Strawberry, Grape or whatever I can find on the shelf that sounds good
