    .243 Reload Recipes

Picked up new RAR in .243 for my daughter. I also ended up picking up some Hornady dies for my press. Hornady was running a special that when you bought the dies you got a free box of 100 gr BTSP bullets with it. Asking any other re loaders out there if they have anything out there worth trying. I currently have a glut of Varget, but not married to it.

    What length is the barrel?
Hodgden 4831 or 4831SC will produce better velocities with the heavy 100gr pills.

Not knowing how big your daughter is, I started my daughter out with reduced recoil loads (she shoots a 7mm-08).

Hodgdon has recipes for H4895 that are really mild, but do a tremendous job.

Give them a call, and they can walk you through a load for her. They are super helpful; and it is not hard to get a real, live, English speaking person on the phone.

You've got lots of good options in the .243 with the 100 grain Hornady bullet. I'd start with whatever you have in the ammo locker that's listed in the Hornady manual and see how it goes.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm waiting on brass to come in and I may cook up a few of each and see how they shoot.

                    42 gr IMR 4350 and 100gr bullet
                    39gr W760 and 100 gr bullet
                    Varget is another good choice

I use a Layne Simpson's favorite load of 42.0 grains of H414 with 95/100 grain bullets. IMR4350 also shoots very well out of my 243s.

I can run quick load and see what it comes up with.

Remember this is just a model. Start low and work up at your own risk, verify with reloading manuals. This is with the Hornady 100gr BTSP
